Women

A Series of Portraits and Interviews Highlighting Female Founders

I want to use my artwork to celebrate female entrepreneurs—something I believe is not done enough. Women are in the start-up world just as much as men but experience way more challenges, including acquiring funding, garnering support, and being taken seriously for no other reason other than gender. As a female entrepreneur, this is an issue I’m passionate about. I also believe that representation is important. Highlighting and including women and minority groups is vital to creating change in a culture that excludes these groups.

This is where my project comes in. As an artist and entrepreneur, I’m sensitive to the potential change that both art and business can incite. The two mediums are powerful tools. The purpose of both art and entrepreneurship is creation— bringing something new into the world to serve others. My hope is to highlight women who are absolutely rocking being a business owner/entrepreneur/maker. With my project, I interviewed women about their work and what is like to be a woman and an entrepreneur. I then created a painting of each woman and wrote about my conversation with her.
